- 10 oz tuna, drained 2 cans (5 oz each)
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup chopped celery
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- 8 slices bread white, whole grain, or rye
- 8 slices cheese cheddar, Swiss, or your preference
- butter or cooking spray for grilling
In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, chopped celery, chopped onion, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Preheat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat. If desired, lightly butter the outside of the bread slices or spray with cooking spray.
Place 4 slices of bread in the skillet. Pile the tuna mixture evenly on each slice, then top with a slice of cheese.
Cover each sandwich with another slice of bread. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom slice is golden brown.
Carefully flip each sandwich and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes on the other side, until the cheese is melted and both sides are golden brown.
Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
Feel free to add ingredients such as pickles, tomatoes, or bell peppers for extra flavor.
If you prefer a crunchier texture, you can toast the bread before adding the filling.
This dish pairs well with a side salad or chips for a complete meal.
