Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 electric mixer (optional)
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 plastic wrap
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 brush for butter (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk about 110°F or 43°C
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted (for brushing)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened (for cinnamon honey butter)
  • ½ cup honey for cinnamon honey butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon for cinnamon honey butter

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture is frothy.
  • Add the melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  • Gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it's smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  • Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for about 15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with melted butter while they are still warm.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, honey, and cinnamon to make the Cinnamon Honey Butter.
  • Serve the warm rolls with cinnamon honey butter on the side.

Notes

For a sweeter roll, increase the sugar to your taste.
If you're short on time, you can use pre-made dough found in stores for quicker preparation.
These rolls freeze well; store them in an airtight container after cooling completely. To reheat, wrap in foil and warm in the oven.
