Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) for bread to finish with a crusty exterior.
Whisk flour, salt, sugar, and baking soda in a large bowl for even mixing.
Make a well in the center and add egg and buttermilk. Stir gently, fold in currants if using.
Turn dough onto floured surface and knead gently for 1 minute.
Shape into a round loaf and place on parchment-lined sheet. Cut a deep cross on top.
Place loaf in a pressure cooker on a trivet, add a cup of water and seal the lid.
Cook on high pressure for 15 minutes. Let the valve release naturally.
Transfer loaf to preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.
Brush melted butter on newly baked bread.
