Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 electric mixer (or whisk)
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 cookie cutter (optional)
  • 1 set measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup festive sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy, using an electric mixer or whisk.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each to allow for spreading.
  • Gently press the top of each cookie with your finger to slightly flatten them and sprinkle the festive sprinkles on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are light golden brown. The centers should look soft.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
