Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 kitchen towel
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoon or 7 g)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened (divided)
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  • 2 tablespoon fresh basil chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add in the yeast mixture, ¼ cup of softened butter, minced garlic, olive oil, parsley, basil, and oregano. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, approximately 12x18 inches.
  • Spread the remaining ¼ cup of softened butter evenly over the dough.
  • Sprinkle a mixture of finely chopped herbs and additional minced garlic over the buttered dough.
  • Starting at one edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seams to seal.
  • Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
