Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and baking soda.
Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir to form a soft dough.
Transfer dough onto lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1 minute.
Shape into a round loaf, score a deep cross on top, and place on prepared baking sheet.
Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped beneath.
Allow to cool on a wire rack, letting the crust harden properly.
Notes
If homemade buttermilk is needed, mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar with 1 ½ cups of milk and let sit for 5-10 minutes before using.
