  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda make sure it’s fresh
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk whole or 2%

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and baking soda.
  • Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir to form a soft dough.
  • Transfer dough onto lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1 minute.
  • Shape into a round loaf, score a deep cross on top, and place on prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped beneath.
  • Allow to cool on a wire rack, letting the crust harden properly.

Notes

If homemade buttermilk is needed, mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar with 1 ½ cups of milk and let sit for 5-10 minutes before using.
