Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 baking tray
  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 set measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional.

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, parsley, egg, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
  • While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a skillet over medium heat, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, cornstarch, sesame oil, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk everything together until smooth.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring constantly until it thickens (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the skillet with the sauce, tossing to coat them well.
  • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat everything through.
  • Remove from heat and serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

Feel free to add vegetables, such as bell peppers or carrots, to the sauce for added nutrition.
Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by varying the amount of brown sugar to your taste.
These meatballs can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for longer storage. Reheat in the oven or on the stovetop before serving.
