1 baking sheet
1 parchment paper
1 saucepan
1 mixing spoon
1 oven
1 rubber spatula
1 set measuring cups
- 40 pieces saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks.
- 1 cup brown sugar Packed.
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts Optional.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
Pour the hot caramel mixture over the arranged crackers, ensuring even coverage. Use a rubber spatula to gently spread it if necessary.
Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes until the caramel is bubbly.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let the chocolate sit for a minute to soften, then use a spatula to spread it evenly across the top.
If using nuts, sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the melted chocolate and gently press them in.
Let the Christmas Crack cool completely at room temperature, then break it into pieces.
Store the pieces in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
You can experiment by adding toppings like crushed candy canes or Sprinkles for a festive touch.
This treat makes a great gift when wrapped in clear bags or boxes!
