  • 16 cipollini onions small, sweet
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Peanut or vegetable oil for frying

  • Soak the cipollini onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. Cover and chill or keep at room temperature.
  • Mix all dry ingredients: flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, dry mustard, black pepper. Combine well.
  • Remove onions from buttermilk, dredge in flour mixture, coating well. Shake off excess.
  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly spray onions with oil. Arrange in a single layer in air fryer basket. Shake halfway through.
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes. Watch for float valve pop if using pressure cooker. Onions should be crispy and tender.

Notes

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, or as a satisfying side.
