Very few will deny there is nothing better, than a good burger. It’s simple, it’s easy and it SCREAMS barbeque season. But, we all know the beauty of burgers is we can have them all year round! So why not try a great burger alternative with an incredible price point. This TVP Burger (Textured Vegetable Protein) is flavourful and super BUDGET FRIENDLY.

I discovered this when I wasn’t doing so hot financially, and I honestly didn’t have much in the way of food. But TVP is insanely cheap, and I always have a TON of spices on hand. So I twisted and tweaked this, and now I want to share it with you.

We all know buying the yummy faux burgers, bean burgers and mushroom burgers can be a bit pricey. So ultimately my goal is to always find alternatives. If I can find a way to make a burger for around $1 or less apiece. You know I’m going to do just that! Thats exactly why I advocate for buying spices and growing/drying your own herbs whenever possible.

These TVP burgers are great regular burgers, but I’ll be honest. My absolute favourite thing to do with them is putting them on bread and smothering them with some mushroom gravy. I believe they call these hamburger steaks? It’s been so long I honestly don’t remember.
A few notes on this recipe:
* Feel free to sub your choice of flour. I use whatever I have.
* If you want to add a little zing, I like to add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little extra
