Shepherd’s pie is just one of those dishes that’s synonymous with cold weather. everything from how hearty it is, to how flavorful it can be. This shepherd’s pie recipe is not only flavorful but it’s cheap and easy to make. Perfect for those weeknight meals when you don’t know what to make.

this year winter came in like a wrecking ball. for approximately one week. but in that time frame, all I could think about was our typical cold weather Foods. Like meatloaf shepherd’s pie Stew’s Etc. those are the kind of dishes that as Canadian I look forward to. but I can’t just make a shepherd’s pie. that would be too easy. so instead I pushed myself to see just how cheap we can make it but still keep it super delicious and super flavorful.

Shepherd’s Pie Recipe With TVP
Ingredients
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Rosemary
- 2 c Veg Stock
- 1 c TVP
- 3 Small Potatoes
- 1/2 tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1/4 c Ketchup
- 1 tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 c Mixed Veg
Instructions
- Peel and chop potatoes
- Boil in water till thoroughly cooked through
- Boil Stock with seasonings
- Add in TVP and remove from heat to let it obsorb.
- Drain potatoes and mash with mayo/butter
- Add ketchup and veg to TVP mix and stir thoroughly
- Add TVP mixture to oven safe container first then potatoes on top
- Put in the oven for up to 40 mins at 325
A few notes on this recipe:
- You can use mixed veggies instead of canned if you happen to have them. They will work the same way.
